Department of Furniture, Design and Habitation

research and expert activities

The department offers expert and consultant services in the area of furniture making, furniture design and product quality and safety. It operates as a standard-setting counseling partner of CEN and CNI of the Czech Republic.

Important activities are the research and evaluation of the VOC outflow from the materials - furniture components, and providing education in CAD/CAM.

The department closely collaborates with Association of Czech Furniture Makers (Asociace ceskych nabytkaru), Accredited Furniture Test Room of MZLU Brno (Akreditovana zkusebna nabytku MZLU - Brno), Czech Trade Inspection (COI Praha) , Regional Hygiene Station Brno (Krajska hygienicka stanice Brno), Association of Interior Formation (Asociace interierove tvorby) , Design Center of the Czech Republic (Designcentrum CR), Experts Chamber of the Czech Republic (Komora znalcu CR), and Chamber of Czech Architects (Komora ceskych architektu).

The department is engaged in the institutional research "Occupied Environment - Primary Medicine Prevention with Focus on VOC Outflow". The examined problematic is related to the products realization on Czech and EU market and to the furniture rating in light of prepared EU legislation,

This research, testing and training worksite of coat of paint materials is equipped by the top facilities for VOC measurements by the chamber method and emissions analysis by the gas chromatography.
